Obituary of Charles Wilfred Badsgard

Chuck Badsgard passed away on April 22, 2023. He was born on October 9, 1935, to Cecil Arnold and Marguerite Jacques Badsgard in Springer, New Mexico. Chuck was 87 and suffered from an unexpected battle with pneumonia.
The family relocated to Los Alamos, New Mexico where he graduated from Los Alamos High School. Chuck spent most of his time with his best friend Monty Hamilton. They played on the basketball team, and Chuck was selected to be on the New Mexico High School All-State Basketball Team. The family later relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico where his father taught him the game of golf, and his love for the game flourished.
Chuck served in the United States Army from February 1960 to February 1962. He attained the rank of PFC and was a member of the 4th Army Championship basketball team in 1962.
In the early 1960's, Chuck moved to Farmington to work for El Paso Natural Gas as a Measurement Technician. There he met and married Sarah Sheafe, and added their two daughters, Susan and Tracy to their family. They were so proud of them. Chuck was later married to Janet Markham.
Getting hired by the City of Farmington as the first professional at Civitan Golf Course was one of his most cherished accomplishments, which he loved. He later became the Director of Parks and Recreation, which molded him into the person he became. Chuck was also employed by Sunco Trucking and Dawn Trucking. Chuck bonded with fellow coworkers making numerous special friends until his retirement and beyond. Chuck was well-loved by all who knew him; he never met a stranger.
Chuck and Pat were married in November 1982 and enjoyed many memorable times together working, playing golf, traveling and playing more golf. Chuck had many golf accomplishments. He had 13 holes in one and was the Club Champion at the San Juan Country Club eight times.
He was preceded in death by his Father Cecil, Mother Marguerite, brother Wayne Badsgard, his sisters Lucille Mehas and Judy Miller, his nephews Jeff Cranford and Kenneth Badsgard, great-nephew Jeff McAtee and nieces, Lisa Mehas and Kristi Miller.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Pat, his daughters, Susan L Gerek and Tracy Haswold (Peter), grandsons Brandon and Chad (Julia) Gerek and Brandon's children Mason and Madison Gerek. Also surviving him are his sister, Mary Alice Pennington, his nieces, Paulette and Stephanie Mehas, Melodie McAtee, Debbie Badsgard, Tammy Seitz, Jennifer Hutcherson, Diana Rice and nephews Rich Badsgard and Jim Seitz. He also left behind his beautiful dogs Missy and Addie.
Cremation has taken place, and Chuck will be laid to rest in the Santa Fe National Cemetary.
A celebration of life will be held in Surprise, AZ on May 25th, Thursday, at his home at 20605 N Sequoia Crest Dr. from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 10th at 2:00 pm at Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W. Arrington St. in Farmington, NM followed by a Celebration of Life at No Worries Sports Bar and Grill, 1298 W. Navajo St, for family and close friends.
