I sometimes told Joan she had the gift of snark. She would smile and say thank you. She was unapologetic about her sarcastic sense of humor and occasionally acerbic comments. She was an honest, compassionate, clear-eyed realist who put time and effort into making the world a better place. I will miss her.

I loved Joan's sense of humor. She and I were friends since we both worked at the U of M. Joan always reminded me that I was older (by one month). I miss her. Thank you Pam for making her last months happier. Hope 2023 brings lots of good things your way.

I still think about stopping by the house when I'm in the neighborhood. I'll always cherish, and miss, our nearly 40 years of friendship. http://werejustpassingthru.blogspot.com/2022/11/eulogy-for-joan-four-decades-of-memories.html

Joan was such a beloved friend for 40 years, and I miss her dearly. She was there to help me through my own psychological crises by sharing with me about hers. Once she moved to Arizona, she and Bob opened their home to me whenever I passed through town, and they made sure I got to experience some of Arizona's culture, such as a Chihuly exhibit and a hot air balloon festival. I got to protest with them and the Grandmothers For Peace once and enjoyed being an honorary grandmother. I share her love of felines and still have a Crazy Cat Lady action figure she once gave me. I will always treasure the love she shared with me.
